About this tour
Valparaíso Beyond the Obvious: An Immersion in the Soul of the City
While most visitors stick to Cerro Alegre and the Historic Quarter, this tour dives deep into the real soul of Valparaíso — a city of hills, stories, art, and contradictions that few tourists ever truly encounter. Escapada Tours Chile proposes a different experience: lesser-known streets, more intimate views, and a narrative that goes far beyond the postcard image.
The Heritage City Seen from Within
Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003, Valparaíso holds in its 42 hills one of the richest expressions of urban art in the world. Each alleyway tells a story: of European immigrants who arrived in the 19th century, of sailors who brought cultures from all oceans, of artists who transformed poverty into color. This tour, with a guide who knows the city deeply, takes the group through these other Valparaísos.
Hills, Murals, and Secret Viewpoints
The itinerary includes climbing less-touristed hills, walking through alleys with extraordinary mural art, stopping at viewpoints with intimate bay views, and immersing in the daily life of residents. You will understand why Valparaíso inspired Pablo Neruda, who lived here for decades and said it was his favorite city in the world.
Local Gastronomy and Bohemian Cafe
The tour also includes a stop at a local bohemian cafe, one of the many cultural spaces that have flourished on the hills of Valparaíso, where you can sample local cuisine and feel the creative energy of this unique city.
With Escapada Tours Chile, a small group of maximum 8 people and a Portuguese-fluent guide, you will have an intimate and profound experience in this city that no generic tour can reveal.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between this tour and LT-001?
LT-001 combines Valparaíso and Viña del Mar in one day. This tour dedicates the full day exclusively to Valparaíso, with a much deeper immersion in the hills, art, and local culture.
What will I see that most tourists don't?
Less-visited hills with intimate bay views, alleyways with extraordinary murals outside the conventional tourist circuit, and cafes and cultural spaces frequented by local residents.
Does this tour involve a lot of walking?
Yes. The hills of Valparaíso are steep and require some physical disposition. We use funiculars whenever possible. Comfortable footwear is recommended. Not suitable for people with very limited mobility.
Did Pablo Neruda live in Valparaíso?
Yes. Neruda had La Sebastiana house on Cerro Florida, one of his three residences in Chile. Valparaíso was a great source of inspiration for the poet, who described it as the most extraordinary of cities.
Is lunch included?
No. Lunch is paid individually. The guide recommends authentic local restaurants, quite different from conventional tourist options.
Is Viña del Mar also part of this tour?
No. This tour is exclusively in Valparaíso. To visit both cities on the same day, see tour LT-001.
What is the best time to visit Valparaíso?
Valparaíso can be visited year-round. Spring (September to November) and autumn (March to May) offer more pleasant weather for hill walks. Summer (December to February) is hotter and busier.
What should I bring for this tour?
Comfortable footwear (essential for the hills), a camera, sunscreen, water, and genuine curiosity about the city. A little money in Chilean pesos for the cafe, funicular, and any purchases.
